Password requirements
Your password must:
- Be at least 12 characters long.
- Not repeat the same character more than 4 times in a row (for example,
aaaaa). - Not use simple sequences, such as
12345orqwerty. - Not include parts of your name, the word "shortstack," or other common parts of weak passwords.
- Not appear in the Have I Been Pwned database, a public list of passwords exposed in data breaches.
If your current password doesn't meet these requirements
- If your password doesn't meet the requirements, you'll see a warning banner when you log in. You'll be required to change your password after a few more logins, or after December 1, 2026, whichever comes first.
- If your password appears in a data breach, you'll be required to change it right away.
Note: For security reasons, ShortStack Support can't set a password for you. If you're locked out, we can send you a password reset email instead.
Transferring your account to another person
- Create a new username and password (the password must meet the password requirements), share these with the new owner, and instruct them to change the password.
- Disconnect any linked Facebook account.
- Update the email address to the new owner’s.
- If you have a paid subscription, ensure the new owner updates payment information.
Note: ShortStack is not responsible for payment issues arising from outdated payment information after a transfer.
